The Delius Trust

GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS

The Trust’s object is to promote the works of the composer, Frederick Delius, and subject thereto the works of any other composer born or at any time permanently resident in Great Britain or Ireland from 1860 to the present day, with a preference for contemporaries of Delius.

Music by Frederick Delius

The Trustees currently make grants or acquire material in the following areas:

  • financing performances of particularly unusual or major works in the UK and encouraging more performances in other countries, particularly where the copyright continues to run;
  • encouraging the availability of historical recordings and sponsoring those representing a new generation of interpreters;
  • acquiring secondary archive material and depositing the remaining primary archive with the British Library; and
  • encouraging publishers to update parts and scores to agree with the Collected Edition and maintaining unmarked parts for use if required.
  • Music by other composers

    Grants for the support of music by other composers are restricted to organisations which broadly promote British music. Grants are not generally made for individual performance, recording or publishing projects.

    Exclusions

    Within the above categories the Trustees will not consider support for capital projects, i.e. buildings etc.

    Applications

    The Trust meets three times a year, in February, June and October. Applications should be received early in the month before each meeting. The Trust will not usually make retrospective grants. There is no standard application form.

    All applications should be supported by the following documentation:

  • Details of the relevant project, including date(s), venue(s) and details of all performers.
  • Full budget for the project, including details of all sources of funding.
  • The most recent available audited or examined annual accounts of any applying organisation.
  • Details, including governance, of the organisation or, in the case of an individual, a CV.
  • Applications can be made by hard copy or email. In the case of email, a letter signed by the person responsible for the application should also be sent.

    Each application will be considered on its merits, keeping in mind the specific terms of the Trust’s objects. Unique, imaginative projects which appear to fall, to some extent, outside the above guidelines may, exceptionally, be considered. In all such cases the prospective applicant must discuss such a project with the Secretary, who will give guidance.
