Jeff Driggers remembered

The Society would like to acknowledge the death of Corlis Jefferson Driggers, who died on 11th November, a couple of weeks shy of his 89th birthday.

He was a very longstanding Delian supporter in America, and did a huge amount for 'the cause'. Jeff Driggers was the Chief Art & Music Librarian for the City of Jacksonville from 1965 until his retirement in 1991, during which time he built one of the finest collections of fine arts materials in the Southeast United States. He was an internationally-recognized authority on the life and musical works of Frederick Delius, who began his music career while living near Jacksonville during the 1880s. A driving force in the local Delius Society, Mr. Driggers developed a unique collection of research materials relating to Delius, which he continued to curate during his retirement. Kind and generous, Mr. Driggers was an avid supporter of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, and among his many community affiliations he served on the board of the Riverside Fine Arts Association.

A memorial gathering for was held in the Main Library Conference Center. Donations were made in Mr. Driggers' name to Jacksonville Public Library, earmarked for the Delius Collection.
