The Delius Society Journal is widely regarded as one of the most authoritative of its kind. It is published twice a year, in April and October, runs to some 150 pages and contains a mixture of scholarly and more general articles on Delius's life and work. It is received by libraries and musical institutions throughout the world.
Two recent issues have centered on Delius's life in Paris and his orchestral evocation of the city in his Paris, and on his major choral work A Mass of Life. Both contained articles on a wide variety of related subjects; in the first, about Paris itself in the 1890s and some of the Delius-connected buildings, Delius's fatal illness (contracted when he was a young man there), and contemporary reviews of the piece; and, in the second, on Nietzsche, the baritone Roy Henderson, reproductions of an introduction to the work written by the first conductor, Hans Haym, a talk by Sir Thomas Beecham, and articles by Eric Fenby and Wilfred Mellers. In addition, there was a musical analysis of the work and reproductions of contemporary criticisms of early performances.
